TRICK-OR-TREATERS FIND COMMUNITY BUILT AT LB HOMES

02 Nov, 2019

“Thank you!” The words shot out from under the bonnet of a little girl. Her hands gripped her plastic bucket that held candy nearly piled to the top of the brim. Her smile was one of the many sights when the community came to visit LB Homes on Halloween.

The girl tilted her head back, craning her neck to see an LB Homes resident, whose smile beamed to illuminate the young girl’s face. After a smile and warm exchange of “thank you” and “you’re welcome”, the young girl shuffled her feet to the next resident, making her way through the semi-circle of smiling residents.

The trick-or-treat activity at LB Homes is a resident favorite. Families lined-up out the door at the Broen Home to greet residents who sat in the foyer in a semi-circle of wheel chairs to pass out candy to young and old alike.

Families made their way through the connecting hallways that link the Broen Home to Alcott Manor and The Sheridan House. Walking through the guided tour gave families a glimpse of the continuum of care offered at LB Homes. Residents at the Broen Home were seen with nursing staff aiding their engagement with young children, some staff holding the residents’ hands in directing candy from bins into the small children’s bags.

“ The trick-or-treat event at LB Homes is one of the many ways we engage the community to celebrate our legacy of community that lives and is cared for at LB Homes.”

Walking through Alcott Manor families saw residents in wheel chairs and arm chairs with sombreros on their heads and smiles easily darting across their faces. The line in Alcott Manor moved slower as residents talked with the children, hearing quick details about the children’s costumes before dropping candy into the children’s bags.

As the tour ended in The Sheridan House the buckets the children carried were nearly overflowing. Residents lined the cafeteria with smiles from the Sheridan House hosts overwhelming the families as they  walked into the lobby. Families gathered for photos, closing their time connecting with residents at LB Homes. The trick-or-treat event at LB Homes is one of the many ways we engage the community to celebrate our legacy of community that lives and is cared for at LB Homes.
